Data visualization: Climate data at a glance
On this page you will find an overview of our data visualizations for various climatological indicators and weather data collected at the station of the University of Graz. Discover detailed visualizations over a period of more than a century. Climatological knowledge days provide a valuable insight into the local climate and its changes. In this visualization, we deal with days on which a defined threshold value of the maximum daily temperature is reached or exceeded. An "Eistag" is a day on which the maximum daily temperature is below 0 °C, while a "Sommertag" is characterized by temperatures of at least 25 °C. "Heiße Tage" or "Hitzetage" are days on which the temperature exceeds 30 °C. "Extrem heiße Tage" or "Wüstentage" are a newer term for days on which the maximum daily temperature reaches or exceeds 35 °C.
In another visualization, we look at the climatic knowledge days, which depend on the minimum daily temperature. A "Frosttag" occurs when the minimum air temperature is below 0 °C. In contrast, a "Tropennacht" is a night in which the minimum air temperature does not fall below 20 °C between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. UTC. "Tropennächte" occur mainly in urban areas or during intense heat waves. They are medically problematic for humans and are considered to be particularly stressful for the human organism.
The source code for creating our data visualizations is freely available on the GitLab software platform. You can view and download it there directly. In addition, we offer extensive documentation that explains the structure and functionality of the code in detail and is intended to serve as an aid or inspiration for your own project ideas. We invite you to take a look at our pages and see for yourself.
